Moose & Gitchigumi Backpacking

Participants will be backpacking throughout Ontario's Lake Superior Provincial Park on the shores of Lake Superior (Gitchigumi), located about 130 miles north of Sault Ste Marie, on the US/Canadian Border. Lake Superior Provincial Park is a place of rugged, striking beauty. From Lake Superior's coast, the park moves inland over mist-shrouded hills and deep canyons. The Coastal Trail hugs Lake Superior's rugged, rocky coast through the park, offering spectacular, unimpeded views of the legendary moody blue waters and access to remote sandy beaches. Within the park's interior, numerous backcountry trails snake through canyons, along water falls, and across wild rivers. The park has an abundance of wildlife including moose, black bear, timber wolf, Canada lynx, red fox, beaver, and marten. Participants will be hiking along the Costal Trail and within the interior trail systems of the park and will be camping and cooking in remote backcountry sites. Hiking will range from easy to difficult depending on terrain.
